hi guys i have taken this pacenet isp which uses pppoe protocol i tried configurin it with pppoeconf it detects and configures but still i am not able to surf and one more thing it changes the entries in my /etc/resolv.conf automatically help needed please cos i am writing this on a windows machine and i am desperate to switch back to my gnu/linux please

Try, adsl-connect adsl-setup adsl-start adsl-status adsl-stop to use your pacenet account.
and also edit your /etc/syscon/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0
for SERVICENAME ACNAME options in this file .
You can use following command to get a list of available SERVICENAME and ACNAME
#ppoe -I eth(x) -m 1412 -A

Dear dhanesh, 1st talk to pacenet guys and tell them to enable your account as a linux user.edit the /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf file and put the apropriate values for service name/access controller and also setup your account through command adsl-setup .One more thing while logging in to adsl connection,your username will be your-user-name@linuxuser

Why do u need to tell the ISP that you are using linux or windows to connect to their server?? How does it matter so long as you are using the same protocol to talk to their server?
I am using PPPoE for the last one year, I haven't told my ISP that I am using Linux.
Try to do this:(I assume you are using red-hat Linux) 1) click on the red hat 2) System Settings -> Network 3) Click on New then select new xDsl connection 4) Enter your details and save new configuration 5) now just say activate network and voila you are connected.
