I think you can fix your problem by installing LILO or Grub on some partition rather than the MBR and making that the active partition. for example if your HDD is /dev/hda and you have Windoze on /dev/hda1 and Linux on /dev/hda2, put Grub on /dev/hda2 and DDO on /dev/hda (the MBR). Then use FDISK to set /dev/hda2 as the active partition.
I think this should work. If not I do have a few slightly more complicated workarounds in mind.
I had installed disk manager of samsung to support my new 40 GB HDD as
my motherboard bios dont support large capacity drives. So a DDO was installed at MBR of my OLD 8 GB HDD Now i installed Linux 7.3 and installed GRUB at MBR of my old 8GB HDD. Now when i boot up..GRUB gives me options of linux and windows both..but since the DDO is not activated( i guess it is overwritten by GRUB at MBR)...i can no longer access my HDD.
Now Diskmanager has option to install DDO at MBR again...but if i do that linux GRUB will be overwritten..wot shld i do?? i want linux and windows both with my 40 GB HDD access

Will windows boot if its partition is not active?
