Hello All, I hv win98 & LINUX 8.0 on my HD now i want to use this HD on another PC but if i choose LINUX option from LILO, system restarts. & if win98 , it gives error - ' A device or resource required by VFAT is not present or is unavailable . VFAT cannot continue loading. system halted ' Is it because change in system confg. ? Plz suggest me solution I need my system working Thanks, Pramila

Just trying running lilo again on new machine...
Donno much, cause left using M$ long back.

your bios might be taking different hdd parameters than the previous system. put the hdd back in old drive and see what cylinder head and sector parameters are detected there. if you put those manually in the new sytem, it should work. also, if you have used any drive overlay software in the old system, it would cause problem. let us know if u have.

you can put follwoing entry in the config.sys, it will fix this up. but i suggest u solve above issue first. also make sure the path is right before putting it. device="c:\windows\ifshlp.sys

Yes, you guessed it right. Even if the config is an exact match... differences in BIOS settings can make lilo do things like you said.

try if this works...
1. Attach HDD as primary master 2. Boot using a CD (linux)... in rescue mode or load Knoppix 3. drop to a root shell 4. mount your Gnu/Linux on some directory 5. Do a "chroot" to that 6. re-run lilo
