Hi, I have a BSNL internet connection. When i am using azureus, after some time, my download stops, it again starts & does this couple of times. Every time, firestarter indicates a blocked connection. If i check the firestarter for blocked connections, i see this (not in any order): Port Source Protocol Service 57084 192.168.1.1 ICMP Unknown 4024 192.168.1.1 ICMP Unknown 62159 192.168.1.1 ICMP Unknown I tried to closely monitor this thing, as far i can tell, when ever this happens, download speed goes to 0 & then again increases. But some times i have to reset the modem.
I am using Ubuntu 8.04. I have checked my pc at grc.com (i went through http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=510812) It shows my pc as passed the test. Can any body help in tackling this problem ?

In torrent, peers will come and go so expect downloads to peak and drop (esp. if the peers you were downloading from are gone).

The above has nothing to do with bitorrent, they are tcp connections to ports 6881-6889.

You should not have to reset the modem and you should exercise some patience.
To get the max. out of P2P file sharing like bitorrent, you *need* to contribute back to the pool i.e. let other torrent clients connect to your system and pick up the chunks that are complete.
Have you opened up your firewall to allow incoming connections and port forward those connections (if needed)?
