hello there,
i am in the process of patching my kernel. however the patch for 2.4.11 at kernel.org has dont-use appended to its name, y is that?? can i just patch 2.4.11 and then patch with 12 and so on and get away with it ?
BTW all this while i wasnt able ot patch any thing because i realised recently, that i didnt have "patch" installed! duhh.. :-)

Yes, you can (and should :) do that.
get all the patches, and install in a sequence.
2.4.11 had some major problem (don't remember what ...) so, it's tagged dont-use

Problem creating files through a dangling symlink. Unless you use SuSE, you won't have a problem (or most likely won't) with that.
