This followed by 40 lines from earlier messages.
*Please* do not top-post, and *please* do trim all that crap that remains after your reply! It really really helps to keep replies intertwined with quoted messages - improves readability a lot.
Sameer.
Perhaps, if you bothered to see what the so called 40 lines said, you would have realised that it is connected with the question that I have raised in the email. Without having the previous mail "crap" quoted, it is like haveing a blank question. No one will be able to understand the reference of the question without the "crap".
As far as top posting is concerned, since there is only one question related to the entire email quoted, your so called love for middle posting is uncalled for. There is no valid place in the quoted email that I can put the question in without it resulted in cutting off the reference to the remaining part of the email.
And it is time you climbed down from your high and mighty pedestal in which you put yourself and give more civil replies. Incidentally, I dont see the answer to the question I have asked, which is the least I expected from you.

Well, being a top-posted message, its a real pain to go _down_ to see the history and then come _up_ again to see what it was meant for!

The message did contain a ton of crap ... earlier messages, as well as signatures and mailing list trailers.

I can see that you are not interesed in reading the post on mailing strategies, and you havn't really got the hang of need for interleaving references. If you couldn't find a relevant place _below_ the message, it sure means that you should have started a _new_ message and not follow the original. Here are alternatives of writing that same question:
Example 1 - reply to the earlier message, making sure to change the subject line as well
Subject: [ILUG-BOM] Cross-posting (was: Redhat 8 CD's)
Body:

What is cross-posting??
Saswata.
Example 2 - starting a new message
Subject: cross-posting
Body:
On some other thread, Amish Munshi mentioned something called cross-posting ... what is that?
Saswata.
I don't know how to make things clearer than this.
And it is time you climbed down from your high and mighty pedestal in which you put yourself and give more civil replies.
Contrary-wise! I am not in a high seat ... instead, I am at the receiving end of all this top-posted, unedited "crap".
Incidentally, I dont see the answer to the question I have asked, which is the least I expected from you.
Do consider http://www.google.com/search?q=cross+posting

Sorry boss, the mail on mailing stretegies has come much later than the one I replied to. After reading the stretegy mail, I understand how it may make sense and why it bothers some people. Somehow, the previous discussions on the same subject failed to convey much. If I had got (and therefore read) the "strategy" message before I replied to the previous mail, I would not have made an issue of this since I would understand why you want middle posted (or should I say interleaved posted).
Personally, I still prefer top posted and find it a pain to read interleaved mail. I noticed that some others also have missed parts of a conversation thread because the did not read the full length of the interleaved message.
However, since I now understand why some people want it that way, I will move to that practice.
However, your response and tone of it was (to me atleast), not acceptable. I think you need to bare that in mind. I am putting this mail off list since I think the thread should end here.
Do consider http://www.google.com/search?q=cross+posting
Did look at google for that query after your mail. Unfortunately I find google very confusing in most cases. Got a fair idea of what this cross posting is, but may be you can educate me a little more when we meet on the 8th Dec.
Regards Saswata
Very Sorry every one, I send this one to the list by mistake !!!!! It was meant to be sent only to Sameer.

Sorry Saswata I was away for a few days and was very busy and was also having problems with my comp, so I could not reply. Posting to more than one mailing list asking for help is called cross post, (that is what it means to me I do not know if it is a standard). For obvious reasons [the computing power, elecricity, human effort (most important) and bandwidth are all wasted],in a cross postt. The most hurting part of it was that the person who did cross post was a friend of mine whome I had subscribed to this and other mailing lists on his request.

OK. Now I understand what a cross post is. Apart from the above, I think cross posting is somewhat like an insult, to the extent that the guy does not have faith that we will have the answer.......like hedging his bets or something :-)
Dont be too harsh on him, I guess he didnt realise the negetive part of it.
But I dont understand how you realised he was crossposting. Because the headers in the file did not show it was directed to more than one list.
