hi! to make better use of my free time in office, I want to start an internal mailing facility. All clients(about 100) will be using microsoft outlook.We already have a company mailing system in place, for within and outside india offices. my mailing server will be only for bombay office, so no outside access or mailing will happen. I've never installed or administered a mailing software, so I was hoping I'd get pointers on what to start with and how and any gotchas u guys know.

See the Postfix FAQ, particularly the question on how to restrict mils to a certain address from elsewhere. If you decide to go with Postfix (read the docs, make and make install is what you need), you can use that method.

I've installed qmail today.Followed the Life with qmail document. used daemontools and ucspi also. $>ps aux | grep qmail show me the following processes : supervise qmail-send supervise qmail-smtpd qmail-send qmail-lspawn qmail-rspawn qmail-clean
and when i boot my comp, i can see the following in my /var/log/messages : qmail : starting qmail qmail : qmail-send service not running qmail : qmail-smtpd service not running rc : starting qmail : succeeded.
To start qmail at boot time, I'm using a script called /var/qmail/bin/qmailctl. there is a symlink to this script called /etc/init.d/qmail, and all the rcN.d directories have start and kill links to this.
But the problem is, when I do $> echo to: root | /var/qmail/bin/qmail-inject nothing happens at all.root doesnt get the mail.Tried sending mail to another user, but same result. also, mail to a nonexistent user produces same result..nothing at all. what could be wrong?
