Hi, I have a vncserver running in my FC4 pc. I connect to this pc from another pc where i use Slax Kill-Bill live cd. I use vncviewer for that. But is there any way to restrict root login because when I login to the vncserver it doesnt ask for a username. It just asks for password that I had set through vncpasswd. I could not find any config files in /etc. To my knowledge config files exist only in $home. I could not find anything in google. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Raj

run vncserver as a user rather than as a root,
did you check /etc/xinetd.d dir? a file vnc should be there. edit the file and enable the service ( but remember to restrict access ).
I would prefer freeNX (http://freenx.berlios.de/) over VNC, NX is lightweight and fast.

Why dont you lock the screen after finishing your work, that way the user will have to put the VNC password as well as the username/password to access the remote system.

Thank you for your reply. Apart from administrative tasks, I connect to Internet from that pc. I don't want to use root login to run apps when I am connected to the Internet. Instead I prefer logging in with a normal user account and su root to do admin tasks. Regards, Raj
