question abt gnome and klyix download

Kernel compilation :some doubts

Phew! finally compiled the kernel and got it working :-) I used many config options and made different kernels (about 5) before arriving at this working kernel. I do not remember the exact options I used. Is there some file where the options are stored so that I can refer them while further tweaking my kernel? How do I know whether my new kernel is better than the default one? Please enlighten. -- A shortcut is the longest distance between two points.

Hegde Venue: Lecture Theatre, NCST, Juhu Abstract: After an era where programs, AI based or otherwise, were meant largely for ideal (non-surprise mode) usage, people have come to realize that for an intelligent system to work in a real-life environment, adaptability has to be taken into account. This is the reason that, although work utilizing Machine Learning concepts was already in progress in applications like Speech, the field is emerging from oblivion only now. This can be gauged by the fact that a linguistic intensive field like Natural Language Technology is utilizing Machine Learning concepts more than ever, and an AI area like Data Mining (which primarily uses ML) is a buzzword in the software industry. In this seminar, we will look at the overall picture of Machine Learning and see why it is required. We will look at a broad overview of the Machine Learning spectrum, from Inductive Learning to Clustering. We will also specifically cover Inductive Machine Learning in more detail and the technologies used to implement it and finish off with the various exciting applications of Machine Learning. About the Speaker: Jayprasad Hegde has been learning a lot from machines (especially his workstation which doesn't seem to work whenever necessary) and would like them to learn something from him. This motivation started his never-ending quest for learning machine learning :). Hi Luggers, I heard sometime back that gnu/linux works on 386 machines. I have a 386machine 8mb ram 250 mb hdd sn200 16 bit lan card cgp display card trl (monochrome) monitor Will gnu/linux work on trl monitor. I have RHL 5.0 (from PCQ). How do i configure the display card and the lan card. will i be able to load any GUI on it. I am willing to put in a 630mb or 1.2 gb hdd to make a complete install. Suggestions are welcome. slightly OT - pci/scsi

hi all, i recently installed linux for the first time, and in the process found that i dont know much about the actual hardware of a PC will u please explain the following - 1) what is a pci adapter or a scsi adapter. how are the two different? 2) how can i find the amount of video memory i have, as i no longer have the manuals with me 3) how can i find if my cd drive (creative 52x) is 'atapi' or not..what is this 'atapi' by the way? 4) on the motherboard, i found 2 switches which were labelled as 'jumper settings' what are these two used for? thanks a *lot* and regards, mayuresh kulkarni. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Kernel compilation problems

I am using kernel 2.4.2-2 I compiled it using following steps : make xconfig make dep;make clean make bzImage make modules;make modules_install Now I copied bzImage to /boot and made appropriate changes to lilo.conf I executed /sbin/lilo Now while booting linux I get following errors: modprobe:Can't locate module opl3sa2 {My sound card is Yamaha and I had enabled this module} I tried sndconfig which gave me following error : You don't seem to be running kernel with modular sound enabled (soundcore.o was not found in the module search path) { I had enabled modular sound } The second error is as follows: mount:fs type vfat not supported by kernel { I had enabled this during the configuration} I tried booting through my original kernel but still I get these errors.
