Where is pine in Debian

Hi There, I have recently installed debain on my machine. And its' nice :). I have the following doubts - 1> How can we browse through the dselect (Select), which gives the list of the applications. 2> If I delete the shortcuts to zope in rc2.d and upto rc5.d, will that be enuff to remove it from startup? Or will it have some bad consequnces? 3> RedHat used to take hell lot of time to check my filesystem. Debian does tht pretty quickly. Why is that so. The fstab entry is the same in both the cases. 4> How can I install rpms in Debian or will i have to install thru tars? Or will it have some bad consequnces? if u dont want zope, i think it might be better to 'dpkg --remove zope' than modifying the startup files.. >4> How can I install rpms in Debian or will i have to >install thru tars? $apt-get install rpm (after connecting to the internet or just goto debian.org and d/l the package. imo, apt-get makes it *much* easier, one of the main reason to use debian over any other distro since it automatically d/l all the required dependent files ) you can install rpm packages in debian. use tar balls if u require the source code (or if they havent provided debs). Pine is not distributed by default with Debian distro because it doesnt come under the GPL but u can d/l it seperatly from their website. OT - stopping CD piracy

Hi, can someone please explain the following : how do s/w vendors ensure that a customer who buys a CD can use it to install the s/w only on his computer and if he takes a CD dump, the second CD will be of no use to anybody else? i guess there must be many techniques to do that but which one is used frequently? thanks a lot.. mayuresh kulkarni __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? OT : VPNs across proxies

Hello, Can someone please explain the following? HOST1 belongs to NETWORK1. NETWORK1 has a proxy server and a firewall which connect it to the internet. HOST2 belongs to NETWORK2 and is a VPN server. Now, HOST1 acts as a VPN client, goes thru the proxy and the firewall and initiates a session with the VPN server. Thus depending on HOST2, certain services of NETWORK2 are now available to HOST1. Is the reverse true? ie can HOST2 access any of the services of NETWORK1, thru the connection established above? Thanks a lot. Swap full

what are the remedies available when your swap space is reported as being full? this hasnt happened to me, but i'm just curious to know... Incidentally, what is the origin of this rule that i keep hearing - swap space = 2 * RAM I've heard this kind of rule being recommended when you're running SAP, but for home systems??????? especially when most home PC's are touching 256/512MB..... regards, kishor

mkinitrd tarball

hey folks the 2.4.5 kernel CHANGES document recommends mkinitrd-2.5-1. Now, i got the source rpm, but my version of rpm cant handle the new rpms. I've searched high and low for a tarball, but to no avail. I'm beginning to think that its a ploy to make me upgrade my rpm ;-) i tried that too, just that i'd have to upgrade db and god knows what not.. anyway..does anyone have the sources? regards, kishor _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? X crash in kernel 2.4.5

hello! I installed a minimal system on my disk, then i compiled the new 2.4.5 kernel, booted into it - and then installed X. after configuration, i'm unable to start it. The same XF86Config file works fine if i boot into 2.2.14 kernel.I'm attaching the .X.err file for info. regards, kishor
