restricitng shell access

hi all, is it possible to restrict the user to run only specific commands the least possible. say i create a user named "temp" and i want him to run only one shell executable called "b" can i do that..? once he logs in he shouldnt be able to change to any other directory other than /home/temp (his home directory). So can I just make him stay in his home folder and run only one executable command. is that possible... please reply reagrding the same, regards, mike.

xcdroast does not see CDread device

hello I have two CD ROMS. One is a creative CD reader infra 48. The second is a Samsung CD writer. I am able to see both the CD's as /mnt/cdrom and /mnt/cdrom1 in my system. However, xcdroast shows only one device namely samsung CD writer. hence Cd to CD copy is not possible. I am using a Red Hat 7.1 Anand

You will need 2 NIC's one will connect to the cable modem and the other to your machine (using cross cable) or to a hub. Also the machine receiving the cable connection will have to provide proxy service to your machine. Your neighbour's machine can either be a linux box or a win 95/98 machine. For linux you can use squid and for windows you can use winproxy. Of course for you to browse, his machine will have to be on. We are using hathway cable connecition in our office connected to a linux box which provides browsing and other services to 40 other machines. Dear Colleague, This is to remind you of the following event. ACM Seminar Friday, August 24, 2001 - 6:30 p.m. Title: Web Engineering with ZOPE Speaker: Nagarjuna G. (HBCSE, TIFR) Venue: Lecture Theatre, NCST, Juhu Abstract: ZOPE (Zee Object Publishing Environment) is a feature-rich web application server written in Python (a powerful object oriented programming language). It is object oriented, with built-in support for XML, password authentication, search, security and user management, and supports protocols like http, ftp, WebDav & XML-RPC. It can use data from various sources including file systems, ZODB, RDBMS and LDAP. The lecture will be an introduction, and will cover installation and a demonstration of most of the features of ZOPE and a few of the ZOPE products used for the creation and maintenance of dynamic web sites. During the talk the suitability of ZOPE for developing e-education applications will be discussed. About the Speaker: Nagarjuna works as a Science Educationist at HBCSE, TIFR. XFree86 4+ & SiS 6326 cards

this is Just for information purposes for all those having vague problems with SiS 6326 cards & Xfree86 4 & up. most of the cards sold here come with 8mb memory. In actuality this chip seems to be able to access only 4mb ( those who have "RTFM" 'ed :-) ... will know this. ) U'll have 2 -3 options.... one (most obvious ).. use the VideoRam = 4096. ( This option is ESSENTIAL for Xfree86 4.0 & up .. not sure abt. 4.1 + though ) u'll need to explicitly limit the memory to <= 4mb for these cards ... the older x-servers detected only till 4mb for the sis anyway. another . dont use the sis driver , use the "vesa" driver. ;-) .. but when u got option 1 why use this ? Also -> anyone using the default PCQ / RHL 7.1 setup.. check 2 see if U r actually using the 4.0.3 server. It seems to use 3.3.6 by default . the rpm is there inside the CD. C'ya Erle.
