Configuring TV Tuner card

Hi all. I have a "Pinnacle PCTV Plus" tv tuner card. I have to pass "card=39" to the bttv module to get it working. The video and the audio work perfectly, but I am not able to change the channels. The "CARDLIST" file in the documentation of linux-2.4.7-10 source doesn't list this card to be supported (I use RHL7.2). But this source is pretty old now. Has anyone tried with the newest bttv driver or has anyone successfully configured this card in some other way? DNS problems.... on dialup

hi again, i am basically having problems connecting to web pages. ! most of the times.. the web page request returns with a unknown host error, i guess thats attributed ot the DNS once the pages load.. and they do load after i try a few times.. mostlly. ! they are preety much OK, so its not a conection of BW or ISP problem it seems. can anyone show me their resolv.conf on a dialup.. how can i maintain my own DNS lookup.. it it will help me with my problem. beleive me its really frustrating! regards rahul

LILO with BeOS

Hi Tanmay, my name is sachin and i have problem to be solved i am using linux rh and i got BeOS5 personal editon which has 1. readme [1 k] 2. lisence [some k] 3. floppy.img[1.4 M] 4. image.be [~500M] now problem is that it does not boot from floopy as i have it image.be from /src/beos where /src is on /dev/hdb3 and it is ext2 fs and it got 800 MB of space without image.be Now i want to boot into BeOS from lilo is there any way out for that? i read the artical for BeOS with lilo it says u require zbeos which i donot have [as u can see there is no file provided in that tar.gz which i listed above] can u provide me a link to the "zbeos" file for download -- ~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= sachin(a)mediaibc.com MediaIBC ~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=

For starters, why don't you try hacking Anaconda or just base your distro on the minimal distribution of Debian. Once you know hoe the stuff works, you could start right from scratch. Beleive me, using Anaconda or the minimal distribution to build your own distro is just as exciting. Report of GNU/Linux workshop at KReSIT, IIT Bombay

Hello all, The Information Technology association, an association of students, faculty and staff of KReSIT had organised a two-day workshop on GNU/Linux on the 26th and 27th of October. The venue was the impressive KReSIT auditorium. The publicity campaign was mainly concentrated inside the IIT campus. In the week before the workshop, posters had been sent to various colleges in Mumbai. The registrations which had been sluggish (and had got quite a few of us worried) picked up in the last 3 days. More than 100 participants had to be turned down. After about 3 weeks of hectic preparations, the big day arrived. The start couldn't have been better. Dr. Nagarjuna gave a fantastic talk on Free Software and the history of GNU/Linux. This was followed by sessions on installation, GUI, command-line and shell programming and programming environment conducted by students at KReSIT. All the slides were created in latex and presented using the pdfscreen package ;-) The entire workshop was recorded and transmitted live to remote centers of the Distance Education Programme being conducted at KReSIT. Enthusiatic people who had turned up on that day were allowed to sit in the local "remote" classroom at KReSIT and watch the proceedings. At the end of the day, a 2 hour lab session was arranged for all the participants. (That's about 200 people - 2 per computer). Accounts for all the participants were created on a single machine (A Compaq ML 530 running Red Hat 7.3). Initially, there were logging-in delays as all the people started their sessions almost simultanueously. This smoothened out after a few minutes and the "exercises" began in earnest. Almost the entire student population of KReSIT had volunteered for the lab management (held at 6 different rooms in the KReSIT building). The second day started with a superb talk on networking and security by Prof. Siva Kumar, head of the Compute Center at IIT Bombay. He showed live examples from the setup at the IIT firewalls. This was followed by various sessions on system adminstration, LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP), mail, DNS etc. After this an open QA session ensued where various doubts were cleared. The proceedings in the auditorium were concluded by an inspiring talk by Dr. D.B. Phatak, head of KReSIT. Day 2 lab sessions were held at the end of the day. An important learning: We felt that it might have made more sense to organise a workshop only for beginners. (a seperate one for experienced people). Because, all thru the 2 days, questions on installations, partitioning, X server problems, Windows interoperability etc continued. It was a mistake on our part to attempt to teach such a broad spectrum - from initiation to services management in just 2 days. Anyway, looking at the fantastic response we got (inspite of the moderately high fees), the Linux scene looks encouraging. Intel Conference

hello folks, Attended the Intel Developer Forum today at Taj regent..quite a good show with the Intel CTO Pat Gelsinger around. There were demos on the wireless network(802.11b) front, and a good talk and demo on the Hyper-threading feature of the Itanium processors. Do chk out something called "Banias" - its cool! There were some talks on best practices for using multi-processor systems. Got to know about OpenMP amd MPI - two API's for enabling ur apps to use clustered systems. Also some tools for perf-tuning and analyzing ur apps(VTune).
