Funding for Hosting Charges.

Greetings, I have collected a fund of Rs. 650/- from the LUG members at the meeting. They are for required funds for hosting charges. I would like to know who is reponsible for the accounting and maintainence. Regards.

2.6.1-"kernel panic init not found"

Hi, I installed the 2.6.1 kernel and having problems with initrd. My GRUB.CONF looks like this- <<<truncated>>> title Linux(2.6.1) root (hd0,4) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.1 ro root=LABEL=/ initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.1.img title RedHat Linux(2.4.20-8) root (hd0,4) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.20-8 ro root=LABEL=/ initrd /boot/initrd-2.4.20-8.img <<<truncated>>> 2.4.20-8 is the kernel installed by RH 9.0 and works fine. 2.6.1 is what i compiled from source and gives me problem with initrd saying - "kernel panic: no init found. try passing init= option to kernel" I understand that there is no problem with the kernel but with the initrd file. Linux is on /dev/hda5 with EXT3 fs and has NO BOOT partition. In 2.4.20-8 i can see EXT3 loading as a module while booting, but in 2.6 EXT3 loading fails with this - "mount: error 19 on loading ext3" _________________________________ When i remove the initrd line from GRUB.CONF i.e. - <<<truncated>>> title Linux(2.6.1) root (hd0,4) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.1 ro root=LABEL=/ title RedHat Linux(2.4.20-8) root (hd0,4) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.20-8 ro root=LABEL=/ initrd /boot/initrd-2.4.20-8.img <<<truncated>>> 2.6.1 loads completely without the module support...so i see that /dev/hda5 is mounted as EXT2 and not EXT3. Now, after 2.6.1 is loaded, i try this- #depmod which tells me that EXT3 requires JBD( which is also a MODULE and NOT BUILT-IN ). After manually 'insmod jbd.ko' and 'insmod ext3.ko', EXT3 module loads succesfully. So my problem is that during boot, EXT3 isnt getting loaded due to JBD and hence kernel cannot load initrd from /boot/initrd-2.6.1.img( which is on EXT3 fs ) My kernel compilation commands were- --------------------------- #mkdir /usr/src/build-2.6.1 #cd /usr/src/linux-2.6.1 #make O=/usr/src/build-2.6.1 menuconfig #make O=/usr/src/build-2.6.1 #make O=/usr/src/build-2.6.1 modules_install ---------------------------- i even tried - #mkinitrd /boot/System-2.6.1.map /boot/initrd-2.6.1.img but same problem... help!!! ===== Linux Kernel Consultant Tel : 91-22-2754-6453/4226 __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Bootroms for LTSP solution

Hi Guys Does anyone know which hardware vendors in Bombay that provide Bootrom and can burn images on them? I have deployed an LTSP server solution at the office and need to get bootroms for my LAN cards and burn the Etherboot code into them. Also I need PXE flash roms for my Intel LAN cards. Need help using pacenet broadband on Redhat Linux 9

Dear Luggers, I am using RedHat Linux 9 with Windows XP Pro dual boot machine.I have pacenet broadband connection on winXP,which uses pppoe intrigated with pacenet dailer.Now my problem is that how do i use it on RedHat linux.Any ideas or clues please help. dynamic linking problems

Hi Guys, I am facing a weird problem. I upgraded my glibc to 2.3.2 using rpm (Intel-Redhat-8). But just after upgrading glibc-utils (i.e. memusage, memusagestat, pcprofiledump, xtrace, libmemusage.so, libpcprofile.so), all programs using threads have started giving problems. Programs were working fine before upgrading this package. I can say this, because rpm started giving error immediately after this upgradation. All other glibc packages are already upgraded. Programs using threads are giving following error: anjuta: /lib/libpthread.so.0: version `GLIBC_2.3.2' not found (required by /lib/librt.so.1) rpm: /lib/libpthread.so.0: version `GLIBC_2.3.2' not found (required by /lib/librt.so.1) Is any of the programs listed in glibc-util used in resolving libraries version? Please help me if anybody has come across this problem before. qmail upgrade:

Hi guys, Currently I'm running qmail-1.03 + smtp-auth + vpopmail + qmailadmin (ezmlm-idx + autoresponder) + mailman + sqwebmail on the server with around 400+ users. Now I'm planing to upgrade/patch qmail with following netqmail-1.04 (ie. http://www.qmail.org/top.html#patches ) + smtp-auth patch + qmail-scanner + spamassassin + calmAv + (all the earlier things). Has anyone done this earlier and has some word of advice for me? Thanks ------ Krishna PS. I'm totally new to ilug and would like to attend the meet which is being planned on 8th@IIT. Will someone tell me what are the requirements if any?
