Hello Everybody,
We are starting a new batch of Linux Device Drivers & kernel Programming from 5th Sep. 2004. The course provides substantial practice with the key steps in developing Linux device drivers.
At the end of the course, a group of students will be given a problem statement for the project. This project is aimed at making you proficient at writing Linux device drivers and solving real world problem.
Syllabus is available at http://www.conceptsinc.s5.com/LDDCourse.htm
Trainer Details:
The course will be conducted by a hard-core systems developer with experience of developing WinFS file systems for Linux. He has a sound understanding of Linux Kernel Internals and currently working on OGFS distributed file system.

Hi
I installed FC2 on my PC and added "pts/0, pts/1" into the file
/etc/securetty. I also changed disable=Yes option to disable=No in
/etc/xinetd.d/telnet. It will let me login as "root" remotely upto 2
sessions. I discovered that the 1st root login as pts/0. After I logout this
session, I relogin as root and it is pts/1 session. After the 2nd time login
as root remotely, I can't login as root remotely. I also ensured the closed
session by typing "last" on command prompt it shows all telnet session are
already closed. I can login remotely with other users name. But terminal
session keeps on increasing by 1 (i.e pts/3, pts/4, pts/5 etc.) and will not
be reset to pts/0 or pts/1 except reboot the system. Does anyone face on
this problem before?

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the
computer industry with the auto industry and stated,"If GM had kept up
with the technology like the computer industry has, we would all be
driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."
In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release
stating: If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be
driving cars with the following characteristics:
1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.
2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to
buy
a new car.
3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You
would
have to pull over to the side of the road, close all of the windows,
shut
off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could
continue.
For some reason you would simply accept this.
4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause
your
car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to
reinstall the engine.
5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable,
five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only
five
percent of the roads.
6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all
be
replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation"
Warning
light.
7. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying.
8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out
and
refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle,
turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.
9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn
how
to drive all over again, because none of the controls would operate in
the
same manner as the old car.
10. You'd have to press the "Start" button to stop the car.
Hum.....
A flame in response to a flame !
Start of a flame war I hope !!!
And yes, I know it is top-posted, but it makes sense top-posted in this case.

I have installed debian base systemand then installed the x-windows-system and
fluxbox packages online.
The problem is that startx is not present on the system. After running
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86, the xserver starts up but crashes almost
immediately.
There are no obviuos errors in /var/log/Xfree.log.
Where should I look for some clues ?
I really would like to get debian working on this machine.
regards,
Sharukh.
I have spent almost the whole of sunday on this andam really at the end of my
tether.

Hi!
I think that the thread which I started was taken in completely wrong
vein. I was trying to rationalize the prevalence of the other operating
system in the Curriculum. I may have been judgmental and prejudiced.
Nobody is perfect. The views did not reflect my love for Linux.
Peace.

Dear Mr. Joshi,
What are you trying to demonstrate by compiling such questions; it
seems you dont like Newbies though you was also a Newbie once upon a
time. Such attitude may give bad impression to the students and users
who are new to GNU/linux or planning to migrate from other technology
to Free Software. GLUGs mailing list is formed with the aim to
promote GNU/Linux and to help Newbies but not to make fun of Newbies.
Now I have 10 compiled lessons for you
1. You dont seem to be a true GNU/Linux Professional,
2. You are highly inspired by Proprietary companies like M$ etc.
3. You must be very selfish. (you forgot you was also a Newbie)
4. GLUG bombay was started with couple of member today it has near
about 1000 members (Its all because of Newbies not because of you)
5. Do you think you are a technology master? (You are a peanuts
comparing to Newbies, they just need a platform which for you a topic
of fun)
6. You are a shame for your teachers, they never made joke for your
questions whenever you asked.
7. GLUG list doesnt require people like you, who believe in
criticize rather helping. (Seriously tell me how many newbies you
helped till today, who was the fool asked a question to a fool)
8. Next time dont try to show your intelligence on GLUG. Find some
other place to perform such important task.
9. Newbies are the future of GNU/Linux and GLUG list so dont so
dont mess with them.
10. You should say sorry to all Newbies who are members with GLUG
list for your abusing mail.

Microsoft doesn't agree with your thinking. They have already accepted that they may no longer control desktop. So dotnet stresses browser centric software. They want to control servers, database and webservers and let users access the software with what ever browsers they want. They have already started moves to get larger share of server market, at cost of unix, but lots of linux servers have also moved to windows. Ofcourse, the spate of security holes and virus has prompted return flow back to linux for many and also earned fresh converts.

What nonsense you are talking about using VB & .NET makes ease of
development.
Man you are still in a tinny pond, come out of it and see the world
where its moving. Today easiest, fastest, and of course cost
effective method is GNU/Linux and free software. I have many examples
which you may not even dream of possible only with GNU/Linux & free
software.

Hey grouchy old man,
If it is possible, can we block emails which have a beyond-one-limit
Original/Quoted ratio ?
I have seen mails which have 3-5 lines of original content and
literally 2-6 /levels/ of irrelevant quoted contend.
