[Reminder] Foss.in - Call for papers - 4 days left for speaker registration

Hi Luggers, FOSS.IN/2005 is an annual conference for the Indian FOSS community. Historically, FOSS.IN/2005 evolved out of the Linux-Bangalore conference series that ran between 2001 to 2004. This year, the scope of the conference is widened to cover free and open source in general, rather than limiting the focus to Linux alone. The four day conference intends to bring together the entire cross section of players in the FOSS scenario - users from different target communities, technologists, developers, educationists, businesses as well as policy makers. The theme for this year's conference is "Conversations". On the FOSS horizon, there are several efforts that are represented or addressed across the country. In, parallel, there are various technical discussions and dialogues that have happened at the earlier conferences and meetings and are expected to happen at this conference too. At FOSS.IN/2005, the focus would be to catalyze mutually beneficial interaction between the technologists and technology implementers (FOSS developers) and the end users, policy makers, educationists and industry. This focus would be in addition to the intent of enabling technology knowledge dissemination across the community through talks and/or demonstrations. The call for participations has been out for quite some time now. Windows is **** with all those serial numbers and stuff. That certainly doesn't apply in Linux. But when it comes to Enterprise Linux, you have to register with Red Hat or SuSE to get updates. Mind you, afaiu, it doesn't matter where you got your copy of RHEL or SLES from. It is quite legal to download both of them from, say, bittorrent or something, because both are still GPL'd. Only, if you don't buy your copy from Red Hat or SuSE, you won't get any updates. Though like I said before, even if you didn't buy it, you can still register and get the updates. Updates are not free. Now, as for my signature, that is the result of registering at http://counter.li.org. I actually use this signature outside such Linux related mailing lists. I use this signature for all my other emails, just to let people know that I'm using Linux! Spare computer without HDD

Hi I have a spare PC without HDD. It has a Celeron 500 64 mb ram 1810chipset and a ASUS 52X Cdrom drive.Does not support CD booting I also have a fully functional PC Pentium 2.4ghz, 256mb RAM, CDRand DVD combo drive, 845GVSR chipset, 2 40g HDD's used for daily needs What use can this diskless PC be put to in combination to the new one. Are you sure they are in Mumbai? I have read a lot of good things abour Airtel DSL on broadbandforum.in and I really hope that they serve our area pretty soon... Problem while compiling openldap

Good morning everyone. i am facing a small problem while installing openldap-2.0.17 through a tar ball on RHEL 3 and 4 while running make it gives me the following errors. [OT] MTNL Triband

Hi list, I heard some of my friends talking that MTNL might be introducing completely unlimited packages (no download/upload limits) for their Triband connections. They may cost between 900 bucks to 1000. Any inside info on this? I am really tired of these cable ISPs (yes, reliance powersurfer too. they have been having tremendous down time in my area). According to my friends they were supposed to introduce this offer(s) 2nd October or so but they pushed it back until the 10th or so. I am highly skeptical of what I was told by my friends. But nevertheless being a human afterall I have hopes from MTNL. Atlast we may have a REAL broadband connection and no hassles of bills since they will be charging a flat fee - no matter what the usage :) Hopefully yours, -- Dinesh A. Joshi
