how to enable root user with password prompting in knoppix.

hello, I got my knoppix cd install on the hard disk. so now knoppix runs almost like ubuntu does as in works without any super user parssword from my hard disk. but now I want the system to ask me for a password when I log in and for root as well when I try to su in the bash prompt. how can I enable both this things? Hello All, Whenever there have been arguments on this list about linux compatible hardware, the experts are of the opinion that they select their hardware in such a way that its compatible to linux without any extra effort. So here is a request to all the experts to provide some information on the motherboards and processors they use, that are directly compatible to linux . Could you provide a small list of motherboard models that you have been using on desktop/workstation systems running linux, for the last 6 months? Hi All, I would like to thank the speakers - Krishnakant Mane, Rajeev R K, Vihan Pandey, who have shared their knowledge. I would also like to thank the volunteers - Anurag Patel, Naveen, Mr. Rao and other two persons, for providing back end support before and during the seminar. I would also like to thank Venktesh Hariharan of Red Hat for providing Fedora Core CDs for distribution among participants. We have got excellent feedback on all the speakers and participants were of the opinion that the time allocated was not enough. :-) We will ask the College authorities to organise a full day seminar/workshop for GNU/Linux in near future. Hello Krishnakant, You can do that simply by : # sudo passwd root This will enable a password for the root user. HSBC online services not working in Ubuntu/Firefox

I opened an account with HSBC a few days back for my salary deposits. The online@HSBC services are not working in Ubuntu/Firefox. It requires IE 5.0+ or NS Communicator. I tried fiddling with the User Agent string (strangely, most of the IE User Agent strings I found on the net looked like Mozilla/<some stuff>) but to no avail. I've submitted a complaint form but I'm not expecting them to listen to it. Is there any way other than booting into Windows or using IE from Wine? Other than the fact that I would be using, well, IE or win32, I would lose face in front of my sister whom I berate for carrying out *her* online banking business in win32/IE :-( -- Rohit V.
