Microsoft's New Linux-Based Wireless Network

"The next time Bill Gates sends an e-mail through Microsoft's shiny new Wireless LAN it will be passed through a behind-the-scenes Linux-based network appliance. Earlier this year Microsoft and Aruba Networks jointly announced the two companies will work to replace Microsoft's existing Cisco wireless network with Aruba's centrally-managed infrastructure, which eliminates the need for individual changes on the access points. Help / installing a new ethernet card / Gentoo

Hi, I've had gentoo 2005.1 with a 2.6.15-r1 gentoo kernel installed for the past 6 months. Recently, my ethernet card conked off and after lots of testing, I was advised by my 'knowledgeable' cablenet operator to get a new one - so I did. I've got an intex lan card with an Realtek 8139d chipset now and I got a drivers cd along with that. I tried compiling the source for the module which they've provided in that CD but was unsuccessful. I used to have a Pronet card with a Realtek 8139 chipset and that was autodetected during installation. What I was wondering was if there is any other way to go about installing this new ethernet card and also unregister the old one; as during boot it gives an error saying that eth0 is not present or something to that effect. I tried looking up google and forums, but couldn't find much. Thanks in advance. Abhijeet

[OT] Erratic service MTNL TriBand

Looks like MTNL has joined the band wagon of crappy ISPs of India. For the past 3 days, I have been experiencing erratic net access to the "Internet." I run my own DNS (bind) - an inordinate time for a name lookup is a good indication that queries to the root servers are not going through. Usually, a reboot of the modem has solved the problem. However, today around 15:00 it got to the point that I was not able to ping the MTNL gw 59.183.63.254 assigned to the Triband subnet. Upon further investigation I found that my modem/router was not getting any dynamic IP assignment for about an hour (ATM link layer checked out OK). My connection is off the Khar(W) Exchg. Anybody with TriBand service experiencing the same? -- Arun Khan (knura at yahoo dot com) "I can resist anything but temptation."

As stated in one of the earlier emails to the list, you can do it by yourself. You might explore a lot more, but disadvantages like inconsistency (aaj kiya, kal nahi, parson kiya, badme nahi....and so on...) time consumption is more (if you are fairly new) and have no idea of what of Windows to GNU/Linux Alternative (that's how I learnt, but that may not be the best or correct way) What you would probably require is to know which are the best sources for this. Among the billion's, here are a few of them which I would list out 1. the distro's (that you are using) website of documentation / how to's page 2. http://www.tldp.org 3. a few articles from http://desktoplinux.com/ 4. http://www.linuxquestions.org finally, 5. en.wikipedia.org (gr8 for some jargons that you might not know) and yes....for all google-ites, there's always http://www.google.co.in (Google India ;) ) __________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
