Friends,
Granthalaya.org ( www.granthalaya.org ) and Anant Corporation (
www.anantcorp.com ) are very pleased to announce general availability of
Koha hosting on granthalaya.org server located in VPM, Thane (
www.vpmthane.org ) datacenter. We believe this is the first of its kind
offering in India and its completely built on open source software and
values.
For libraries, the major benefit of this offering is, they don't have to
install and maintain a library software server in premises and have a
internet leased line link to it to provide an updated Online Public Access
Catalouge ( OPAC).
They can simply host the entire library management software with
granthalaya.org and work with it in a secure manner using a simple browser
over internet. It is as simple as hosting your website at a shared hosting
service provider but here you get a complete web based library management
software from which you can do all your day to day library functions like
member management, circulation, fees, new book acquisitions, barcode
printing, stock taking etc.
Our first user of this service is already live, please see
opac.kalibindia.com
This initiative is to provide a revenue stream for sustained operation and
maintenance of the Granthalaya.org project ( which is a project of Vidya
Prasarak Mandal, Thane; an educational trust.) which intends to create
bibliographic union database of holdings of all the public libraries in
Konkan area including Thane in India. Granthalaya.org also intends to help
libraries in computerizing their holdings by providing them hosted / local
installation of Koha, user training and data migration services.
Key features of this offering are..
* Independent install of Koha version of your choice on a shared Ubuntu
server. Koha is worlds first open source Full-featured Integrated Library
Software ( ILS)*.* In use worldwide in libraries of all sizes, Koha is a
true enterprise-class ILS with comprehensive functionality including basic
or advanced options. Koha includes modules for circulation, cataloging,
acquisitions, serials, reserves, patron management, branch relationships,
and more.
* Full access to your home directory and Koha code.
* Separate mysql database. Full access via phpmyadmin.
* Separate Zebra database
* Installation, Initial setup and NBD Annual Support included.
* Can offer customization, data migration and user training services if
required.
* Nightly full dump of database in your home directory with backup to disk
and tape.
* We are open to discuss any additional requirements
Initially we are offering this service at INR 12500 ( USD 250) for initial
setup (one time charge) + INR 17500 ( USD 350) as Annual Recurring fees.
Please contact us if you would like to avail this offer or know anyone who
would like to or to help the Granthalaya.org project in any manner.
Regards,
Koustubha Kale

Hi list,
TMAC for Linux, is a bash program written for the purpose of changing the
MAC address of network interface cards in Linux OS, provided it has Bash
shell environment.
Please check the details and some sort of, funny description about it.

This has been successfully tested with Ubuntu system.
Suggestions are welcome.

Sage Days 25 - An Invitation
What is 'Sage Days'?
Sage Days is a confluence of present and prospective SAGE Users and
Developers. It is an opportunity to come together to share ideas,
brainstorm and hack on Sage.
Sage Days 25 is the 25th version of Sage Days, and is being organized in
Mumbai, India. In order to cater to an Indian audience and scenario, this
version has been tweaked slightly. Sage Days 25 has beginner level
tutorials, in addition to the usual talks and sprints, to help new users get
started with Sage and help promote the use of Sage in India.
What is Sage?
Sage is a free, open-source mathematics software system licensed under the
GPL. It combines the power of numerous existing open-source packages into a
common Python-based interface. It's mission is to create a "viable free open
source alternative to Magma, Maple, Mathematica and Matlab".
Sage has tools for a broad range of mathematical areas like Linear Algebra,
Calculus, Symbolic Math, Plotting, Rings & Groups, Graph Theory, Number
Theory and Cryptography. Essentially, "it can do anything from mapping a
12-dimensional object to calculating rainfall patterns under global warming"
- as Science Daily puts it . Eager to get started? Start here. [#1]
Apart from being feature rich, it's usability is one of it's greatest
strengths. Sage Notebook, a web-interface for all the math you'll ever want
to do, is really the killer feature! As the Sage Marketing page says, "The
SAGE GUI surely works on your computer box, because it just runs in
Firefox!". Try it Now! [#2]
Why should you attend?
Sage Days 25 is being attended by the creator and lead developer of Sage,
Prof. William Stein. It will also be attended by other developers of Sage.
This would be a great opportunity to meet and interact with them!
The conference will be attended by a plethora of enthusiastic people from
all over the country who use Sage or are interested in doing so. The
conference will also see the presence of many mathematicians interested in
software. Who knows, you may run into someone you'd want to collaborate
with, for your future work!
This event will be a great learning experience, if you are even remotely
interested in math and software for it!
When and Where?
Venue: IIT-Bombay, Mumbai, India

Hi all,
Please suggest me a GNU/Linux distribution for a PC having following
configuration:
Processor : VIA Samuel 2
Speed: 796.32 MHz
RAM: 512 MB
The suggested GNU/Linux distribution MUST have at least following packages
available in it by default:
1. KDE
2. C/C++/Java Support
3. LAMP Support
4. Quanta Plus
5. Open Office
6. Desktop Publishing Support
7. All audio and video codecs
8. VLC
9. All other standard components of GNU/Linux distribution
Please don't suggest URL for installation of additional packages. I want such
an installation DVD which should contain ALL these packages BY DEFAULT.
Best Regards ...

You can always goto kickyoutube.com or vixy.net and let them handle the
conversion for you. (Why let a slow computer convert media?)

The Mint distribution has a LXDE version. I've used it and found it
satisfactory. Everything from performance to polish was impeccable.

and top notch.
This will include performance optimisations, DB tuning, and other
problems that might progressively slow down the site as it grows

- Regular web operations: Setting up and managing servers,
troubleshooting networks, mail servers, monitor server logs, generate
site statistics,
coordinate releases, tweak NFS configs, spot & eliminate
