I just stumbled upon something where the concept of 3D browser can be applied. An application can be made for preparing process maps which can be arranged as follows The top layer will show all the departments of the organisations. As you scroll down into any of the departments it will show a detail of processes performed by that department. As you go further into a process, there will be details of components of the process and how they are related. Clicking on a component it will give information about how it is to be carried on and the role of the employees in that component and how it relates to other components. Here we can also make use of media capabilities of 3D browser without launching external applications to show how the task is to carried out and some instructions on it. File system permissions can also be made use of to restrict the level of access the user can have over each level. Take for example the top management can have permission to view, modify and delete all the layers. The departmental managers can only have modify access to their department. but can only view the contents of other departments. The employees at lower level only have write capabilities in the processes they are involved with and can only read the information of their department. Whereas the customers can have read access to whatever concerns them. Also there can be a section where customers have write access and can place their queries and suggestions. Besides use can be made of syncronisation so that each needs of each department can be automatically forwarded to the other departments. Also there should be checks for conflicts between the objectives of the different departments so that the routine work is not affected.
