Performance for a 1GHZ single core + 128 Mb RAM shouldn't be much but you are looking at basically Gecko rendering over android which is very much optimised and performs hell lot better than android.
As far as games are concerned , thanks to firefox os devs Javascript games have become more faster.
Coming to rootablity , you van enable ADB and you get a root shell on which you can basically do many things which ADB allows you , like deleting and modifying files. Busybox also works on the shell if thats what you are looking for.
Also coming to versions , you can keep on flashing and building as many versions as you like from the source and flash it on to the device. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Building_and_installing_Firef...
Basically to a point you can do pretty much everything but its definitely not a GLIBC shell like you see on Openmoko, N900 , N9 or Jolla phone.

That ram is indeed a problem. Else one would be able to have a real interface without all the crap from android.
http://mm.ilug-bom.org.in/mailman/listinfo/linuxers busybox. Seems to be standard gcc and "fiends".
The Moto e and g look promising too. Including source.
