U say u r not comparin, but thats exactly whad u r doin up
there dude! i agree u'r comparin comm. vs comm. but one

eh.. if it was meant to be so general then i guess even
smartness is also a strength, then why mention it seperatly? U seem to have used it in a physical sense.

Who is callin it ne o that. what i'm sayin is that people
survive on this kind o work. Mind u i'm sayin survive,
which seems to be enuf 4 them, they dont need expensive toys
like cars, big house, children ;) , etc.

ah my friend now u'r some where near the
"FreeDevelopers.net" space. Government/non-profitable/industry-consortiums fundin
are all very interestin wayz to make Free Software.

I had a dream sometime back where i saw this Microsoft goon
shootin down this innocent dude called Netscape n then the
goon went after a dude called Real networks. Im so glad it
was just a bad nightmare n not reality.

wokay. Heres the thing:
take the example of a iron box. If my neighbour wants to
iron his shirt n he come's n borrows my XYZ ka iron box n i
give it to him, XYZ wont come n arrest me! u see the
value o the iron box does not become ne less when i share
cause i can always use it later on. but say there is this
sandwich n my neighbour eats it, then i cant eat it, so i'm
obviously gonna be pissed off n wont share that.
An iron box or software is a tool- whereas a sandwich or
paintin is a accessories. U do stuff(function) with tools n
u jus "enjoy" accessories.
note that the neighbour will eventually get his own iron box
when he can afford it n save himself 4rm the discomfort n so
XYZ or whoever will make their money. So the idea is
that ppl need to see enuf value in what u provide.
>>then they are within their right to sell this software -
>>with all strings attached.
>>>??? eh?.....
>>>>I stick to this. You are not forced to buy them.
A friend o mine got this Compaq mac. n he was *FORCED* to
have Win on it. cause other wise he would be refused
support. You can force ppl in not so obvious wayz. Also the
CD that came with it does some wierd partition shit, so that
he had to use partion magic to be able to fit Linux into the
M$ box. hmm.. I wonder if the CD behaviour has some hidden
agenda. You can also force ppl by not givin them choices by
killin *all* competion.
>There are plenty of other software companies which sell
>software and dont behave in any way like Microsoft.
Can't deny that! :) i'm with u on that man.

Hello,
Is there any special configuration required for ttyS1
on Linux to work on i815 chip motherboards? I can see
it detects ttyS00/ttyS01 but my modem/mouse only works
on ttyS0.
COM2(ttyS1) resides on seperate card.
It doesnt work even on windows. So I wonder if it is
COM2 or something else?

How do I find out who owns a particular IP address? Where do I have to
look for this? nslookup turns a blank if there is no dns entry for it.

Thanks, I was aiming at building a zoo but since i
thought just downloading the virus would infect my
computer i was keeping all mails on my webmail
providers server ;) .
That was an informative answer.
Thanks Philip.
Is it a crime according to Indian Cyberlaws to store

Hi,
Can a shell script contiuously poll for a specific file in a
specified directory, and upon finding such a file, execute some commands.
Can someone please suggest if this is possible & suggest some way to
implement it.
regards,
Sandeep
I'm trying to install Linux 7.1 on my friend's comp .Here is the
configuration: PIII 866 ,815e Chipset,128 RAM,20 GB HDD
The partition is 15+5.I deleted 5GB to make room for Linux. Windows
ME is present on the 15 GB partition .Now during setup when I add
mount point / in Disk Druid I get error that boot partition>1024
cylinders.
I checked out Fdisk instead of Disk Druid and found that the cylinders
available are in the range somwhere between 1800 to 2000 (Sorry, I
forgot exact numbers).
I have read that latest lilo supports >1024 cylinders .Where should I
download lilo from? After downloading how can I "tell" the setup to
install the latest LILO instead of it's default.
One of our ilug members had similar prob and Philip had suggested :
Install your system as usual, but choose not to use lilo.
How do I install the system (I can't create / )? I also don't get an
option of choosing whether to use lilo.
Please help.

Subject: [ILUG-BOM] [OT] Possible virus, can anyone confirm
I received a file named Book3_26.xls.pif in my mail. I suspect this to
be a virus because of the way the filename is masked to show up as an
excel sheet in default windows installs.
IMPORTANT: This was sent to me by someone who has my address in your
addressbook. Anyone using windows, and having my address in your
addressbook, please check your system.
The virus is probably harmless through mail because of a stupid problem.
There's an extra = at the end of the base 64 encoded file, which means
it cannot be decoded, at least not by standards compliant decoders. OE
may still decode it. Don't know about NSMessenger. A simple inspection
of the attachment tells you that. I extracted the file, and ran strings
on it. It gave me this:
BFD: BFD internal error, aborting at coffcode.h line 763 in
styp_to_sec_flags
BFD: Please report this bug.
This seems to be a problem with strings. (strings on Solaris works)
I then did a file on it and found it to be a Win32 executable (surprise!).
I then did a less on the file to see what was in it.
I found a lot of things, including the following (edited to fit):
Content-Disposition:
quoted-printable
8bit
7bit
octet-stream
plain
mixed
Content-Transfer-Encoding:
; charset=
; boundary="
Content-Type:
application
mixed
_Outlook_Express_message_boundary
Outlook Express MIME messages encoding and decoding
X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express
X-MIMEOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.50.4133.2400
MIME-Version: 1.0

Subject: To:
From:
along with three letter abbreviations of days of the week and months of
the year and a lot more. Specifically, there are a lot of references to
Winsock.dll and common TCP/IP errors, but I have been unable to
determine if it just uses the file or tries to replace it. I believe it
may be the former, though its size (173KB) seems to suggest it does a
lot more than just send email.
Towards the fourth quarter of the file, I found actual excel stuff.
Now, look at the header of the mail:
X-MIMEOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.50.4133.2400
X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.50.4133.2400
Content-Type: multipart/mixed;
boundary="----147B2E70_Outlook_Express_message_boundary"
Content-Disposition: Multipart message
and the attachment headers:
------147B2E70_Outlook_Express_message_boundary
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
Content-Disposition: message text
Hi! How are you=3F
I send you this file in order to have your advice
See you later=2E Thanks
------147B2E70_Outlook_Express_message_boundary
Content-Type: application/mixed; name=Book3_26.xls.pif
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=Book3_26.xls.pif
Also, the terminating message boundary is identical to the others,
instead of having a trailing -- as specified in 822 (I think).
Looks pretty suspicious to me. I checked at Symantec, it's been
recorded as the W32.Sircam.Worm, last updated this morning.
Check http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sircam.worm@mm.html for
more details.
