[OT] Any telecom breakdown?

Hello All, Has there been any major telecom breakdown in Mumbai? My phones went dead yesterday but internet was on. Now phones are back to life and net is down. The Reliance fwp too has problems getting the yahoo mail website load fully. Pop/Smtp access is good though. -- Regards, Rony.

Killimg bad cd/dvd scan process.

Hello All, How does one kill a runaway bad cd/dvd reading process that does not allow any other program to run? Even in console, before one can log in and do ps -ax, it floods the screen with I/O error messages. Any keyboard shortcut to kill the process? Ctrl+C does not work. -- Regards, Rony.

firefox and X together take up 100% of cpu usage???

For the past few days i've been observing that when firefox is running continuously for some time (sometimes for minutes, sometime for hours), X and firefox are taking up 100% of cpu usage. My system details are as follows: os: debian testing (that's what i've got in my repos, dunno what version it is) firefox: Mozilla Iceweasel 2.0.0.3 xorg: 7.1.0-16 m/c: AMD 2600 XP+ custom compiled kernel: 2.6.20-6 i tried running strace -c on firefox for a few seconds, and this is what i've got: % time … [View More]

Linux on Vista Installation Report.

Hello All, The installation went smoothly with no manual correction needed to grub. The machine was an HCL one with Pentium 2.8 Ghz. Dual Core, Gigabyte 955 mobo and 512 MB RAM with 15" LCD screen and DVD writer. OS was Vista Home basic. Kubuntu 7.04 64 bit was used to first boot live and test his Tata Indicom LG FWP.
