hello, first post. regarding the next LUG meeting. does anyone know when and where it might be? i would like to meet some of you people in RL. 8~) also, i am interested in volunteering for the WSF stall. and i assume the LUG meeting would be the best place to discuss it. another qtn: i have been wanting to get a broadband connection for sometime now. what would you people recommend? local cable guy, or a big firm ..etc? What connection do you use (and why)? (I live in Colaba, moved here from delhi around July 2003) thanks shanat. Hi ppl, I am a Compsci BE student from Mumbai.I am doing my final yr = project in Bank Network & Security Sys both for Core Banking Solutions [Finacle-Infosys] as well as Total Branch Automation products.Being a linux= enthusiast, I know that linux provides excellent solutions to the banking = sector in terms of compatibility, consiceness, network-security and TCO. Bu= t I would like to receive some feedback from this experienced group, esp fr= om ppl who have tried using linux in Banking sys, about the advantages of u= sing open source products over std commercial software.Links to web-pages/a= rticles about deployment of linux in banking sectors will also be very valu= able. Hi List, Once again sending the link for RHCE exam guides softcopies. RHCE exam guide http://orangeroom.org/rhce/ Demo test http://www.rhce2b.com/test.shtml Some important notes for RHCE preparation http://www.unixreview.com/documents/s=1356/urm0109a/0109a.htm Also, some1 informed me that Redhat is going to Migrate RHCE exams on Advanced Server platform and currently available Certification will be scrapped by April next year, the news is not yet confirmed but heard so. Currently I m going thru PAM modules.Interesting stuff surely one should have a look at it once. Pam Administrator Guide is worth reading. Any one on the list preparing for the same???? | there has to be a justified reason , purpose and need for it to happen ... | not just like a fun fair .... i mean AGENDA... what do u want to showcase / | address some problems... can u really showcase or address that issue ... Can site at least few reasons. I might be wrong :) 1. Commercial point of view - Spreading linux awareness amongst companies. In my current organisation, I asked my boss if I could use Linux as my desktop. The answer was a straight away "why do u need Linux ? ". And the company spends so much time and resources on windows patches and security alerts just because everybody is running windoze. 2. Programmers perspective - clearly Bangalore and Hyd are ahead of Mumbai in technology race. In such a situation ppl from Mumbai have to shift to Blr and Hyd for better career prospects. While I do appreciate growth of Blr and Hyd, I do not see any reason why Mumbai should be left out of the race. Holding such events will definately foster technical growth in Mumbai. 3. End user perspective - Mumbai with all its banks and financial institutions is financial capital of the country and a promising market. 4. Maybe even govt. agencies can benifit ( if they find time from the various scams :) ) --yogesh

/ hi group, / i created a output file from a C program and changed / its(the executables) permissions using chmod to / rwsr_xr_x(i.e.,4755).Then i logged in as a normal user / and then ran the executable.Now how could i find out / whether the user id changes to that of root id on / execution of that executable. gnome mouse button mapping
