QT Problem

Hi Luggers, I have kinda hit the roadblock trying to compile quickdc, a direct connect client. The ./configure ends with this error. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.0) (library qt-mt) not found. Please check your installation! For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log. Make sure that you have compiled Qt with thread support! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If I --disable-mt it ends with (library qt) not found. Being quite used to this mess of qt, I have done the following. 1. ln -s /usr/lib/qt-3.1/ /usr/lib/qt3 ## Created a symlink 2. Ran configure with the ./configure --with-qt-libraries=/usr/lib/qt-3.1 Gives the same error. Some inputs [root@bastion quickdc-kde-0.1.0]# rpm -qa | grep qt qt-3.1.2-13 qt-devel-3.1.2-13 [root@bastion quickdc-kde-0.1.0]# cat /etc/ld.so.conf /usr/kerberos/lib /usr/X11R6/lib /usr/lib/qt-3.1/lib /usr/lib/sane /usr/lib/mysql /usr/lib/qt-3.1/lib Regards PP BIJU KRISHNAN --------------------------------- Yahoo! [OT] ARP Layer 2 or 3 ?

For all you networking gurus :- Is ARP considered to be a layer 2 or layer 3 protocol ? I googled, but I cant still seem to get a proper answer. Although I tend to agree that its a L3 protocol, it does not encapsulate a L3PDU on to the Data Link Layer, as its messages are put directly in the data part of the L2 frame. Or is it best defined as a L3 protocol without any header ? Thanks Shahed

Proxy with username/password for apt-get and Synaptic

We have a proxy server in our college which I am handling. Every machine in the college has to enter a username/password to get access to the internet. The only problem I am facing is that there is no way to configure apt-get and Synaptic for the proxy alongwith username/password. They just give an option of entering a proxy server entry, nothing for username/password. Is there anything to configure proxy with username/password in apt-get and Synaptic? (Actually, there is one I know but its unethical and insecure to be used on the local network.) -- Regards, Sanket Medhi.

Jan 14th meet report.

Hello All, The Jan 14th meet was held at five gardens from 4 pm to almost 7.30 pm. It was attended by 12 people and the concept of meeting in a public place like a garden had a good response. Dr. Nagarjun even suggested an idea of having a wireless access point network to make the gardens hot spots for people to come in the free open space with their laptops and do their work without any restriction of wires or walls. The topics covered in the discussions were, faxing in Linux and later on we had a very interesting talk by Dr. Nagarjun on free software. For the faxing solutions, Dr. Nagarjun, Anurag and Benoy spoke about their experiences with fax softwares and Hylafax was the clear choice for everyone. Then Dr. Nagarjun gave a very in depth talk on the Free Software Movement. He updated us on how the software patents bill would have killed software freedom in India and how it was withdrawn in the nick of time after a lot of interaction with the Govt. and political parties. He went on to tell us the difference between open source and free software and how open source did not necessarily mean free software. Please note that here free is freedom, not price. He has also suggested conducting a Linux installation workshop for hardware vendors in Mumbai so that they can get an actual hands on experience with linux. They can be invited to bring their own setup, without monitors, to the workshop and go back with a working linux system. Overall it was a good meet and I am sure all those present share this view. Rtl 8139D linux support help.

I have been trying to get the Rtl 8139D lan card running on linux 2.6.14 and also looked up the internet but with no hope if anyone has used or seen support for this card on *nix please help and point me to the required modules. The best way of reaching there is by a combination of Road and Rail. Mumbai has two main suburban train tracks respectively called after the Central and Western Railways. The suburban trains of Mumbai are called 'local' trains. If you are on the Central Railway, get down at Kanjurmarg or Vikhroli and take an auto to IIT. The auto will take around Rs. 10 - 15. To board any of the buses, you'll have to walk slightly till a bus stop on the main L.B.S.Road and take any Andheri/Borivali bound bus. The fare is around Rs. 3. If you are coming from the Western Railways, get down at Andheri and take any of the buses going to Mulund from the eastern side of the railway station. The fare would be roughly Rs. 6. Alternatively, you could take an auto which will take around Rs. 45 to IIT. Getting to KReSIT within IIT The new KReSIT building is now fully operational - one of the most impressive structures in the IIT-Bombay campus! The KReSIT building is the first big structure one comes across when entering IIT. Approximately a 5 minute walk from the Main Gate, it is situated on the right side of the road after Hostel 10 and the wide road going right to the Y-Point gate. It is equally close to the Y-Point gate; turn right after entering the Campus, and take the first left where you will see the Central School Ground. Continue walking and enter the second gate on the right. You can see the white and blue KReSIT building right away! Note that the building is not connected to the long corridor that links all the department building. Hello guys! I am in need of some Open source distros. It would be great if somebody could exchane them for blank CDs. Nevertheless, if you have any of these distros please do let me know. 1) FC 4 or Open SUSE 10 PPC version 2) FC 4 or Open SUSE 10 64 bit 3) Open Solaris 10 (x86) I know that, I may be asking too much but I seriously need these for some personal work.
